Andrey Makarevich in Helsinki

Andrey Makarevich is a Russian singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in 1953, who co-founded Mashina Vremeni in 1969 and became its longtime frontman. His work connects rock with the singer-songwriter tradition, and his best-known songs include “Povorot,” “Svecha” and “Za tekh, kto v more.” Makarevich formed the Creole Tango Orchestra in 2001 and began performing jazz, blues and chanson material through that project. In 2009 he joined Mashina Vremeni for the band’s 40th-anniversary concert at the Olimpiyskiy Sports Complex, while his separate live work has also included solo acoustic evenings. In later years, he has performed far beyond his native Moscow, including concerts in Tel Aviv and Berlin.
