Arab Strap are a Scottish indie-rock duo formed in Falkirk in 1995 by vocalist Aidan Moffat and multi-instrumentalist Malcolm Middleton. Sparse guitar and electronic arrangements frame Moffat’s spoken-sung narratives on records including The Week Never Starts Round Here and Philophobia; “The First Big Weekend” and “The Shy Retirer” are among their best-known songs. A 2006 farewell tour closed their original period as a working band. They reunited for a short series of anniversary concerts in 2011, then returned again in 2016 for shows at Electric Brixton in London and Barrowland Ballroom in Glasgow.
