Arooj Aftab is a Pakistani singer, composer and producer, born in Riyadh in 1985 and raised in Lahore. After studying at Berklee College of Music, she settled in New York and developed a spare, atmospheric approach drawing on Urdu poetry, jazz, chamber folk and minimalism. Her best-known work includes the albums Vulture Prince and Night Reign; “Mohabbat” earned a Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance. In 2022, Aftab became the first Pakistani artist to perform at Coachella. The following year she toured the collaborative project Love in Exile with pianist Vijay Iyer and multi-instrumentalist Shahzad Ismaily, and her festival appearances included Glastonbury.
