Beres Hammond & Beenie Man in Newark

Beres Hammond is a Jamaican reggae singer and songwriter born in Annotto Bay in 1955. After singing with the band Zap Pow, he built a solo catalogue rooted in lovers rock, reggae and soul. His best-known songs include “What One Dance Can Do,” “Tempted to Touch,” “Putting Up Resistance,” “Rockaway” and “I Feel Good.” In 2001, Beres Hammond released Live from New York, a document of the full-band format that has defined his concerts. He has also returned repeatedly to Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, where the 2019 festival included an onstage reunion with his “Pull It Up” collaborator Buju Banton.

Beenie Man is a Jamaican dancehall deejay and singer, born Anthony Moses Davis in Kingston in 1973. He began recording as a child, and his best-known tracks include “Who Am I,” “Girls Dem Sugar” and “King of the Dancehall.” His album Art and Life won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. In 1993, Beenie Man faced Bounty Killer in a lyrical clash at Sting. He later made repeated appearances at Reggae Sumfest in Montego Bay, and in 2020 he reunited with Bounty Killer for a joint Verzuz performance staged in Kingston.
