Bobby Rush in Chicago

Bobby Rush is an American singer, harmonica player and guitarist, born in Homer, Louisiana, in 1933. He plays electric and soul blues shaped by funk, and is known for songs including “Chicken Heads,” “Sue” and “Bowlegged Woman.” His later recordings include the Grammy-winning albums Porcupine Meat and Rawer than Raw. Bobby Rush spent decades working the Chitlin’ Circuit, presenting a band-led blues revue built around his vocals, harmonica, comic stage banter and dancers. Later appearances included the Chicago Blues Festival and the King Biscuit Blues Festival in Helena. He has also performed at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.
