Bonnie Prince Billy in Dresden

Bonnie Prince Billy is the principal recording name of American singer-songwriter and actor Will Oldham, who was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1970. After releasing music under several Palace names, he adopted the Bonnie Prince Billy identity in the late 1990s. His best-known works include the album and song “I See a Darkness,” later recorded by Johnny Cash, and the albums Master and Everyone and The Letting Go. Bonnie Prince Billy toured with guitarist Matt Sweeney after their 2005 collaborative album Superwolf. In 2006, he performed at The Queen’s Hall in Edinburgh with drummer Alex Neilson and members of Harem Scarem; the concert was later released as the live album Is It the Sea?.
