California Guitar Trio in Bakersfield

California Guitar Trio is a multinational instrumental guitar ensemble formed in Los Angeles in 1991 by Paul Richards, Bert Lams and Hideyo Moriya. The three musicians met through Robert Fripp’s Guitar Craft courses and developed a repertoire spanning progressive rock, classical music, jazz and surf rock. Albums including Yamanashi Blues, Invitation and Whitewater combine original compositions with arrangements such as Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The trio toured in the early 1990s as part of The Robert Fripp String Quintet, an ensemble that also included Trey Gunn. They later opened for King Crimson during the THRAK tour in 1995 and 1996, and recordings from those performances became An Opening Act: On Tour with King Crimson. In the 2000s, they expanded the concert lineup with Tony Levin and Pat Mastelotto under the name CG3+2.
