Minami Kizuki in Shinagawa

Minami Kizuki is a Japanese singer from Amami Oshima whose pop repertoire draws on the island’s shima-uta folk tradition. Born in 1989, she made her recording debut with “Aitsumugi” in 2009; her singing is noted for guin, the ornamented falsetto associated with Amami folk song. The Uta Ashibi concert series has recurred across her career. In 2019, its tenth-anniversary edition was held at Bunkamura Orchard Hall in Tokyo, marking a decade since her recording debut.
