Yothu Yindi in Brisbane

Yothu Yindi is an Australian band formed in 1986 in Northeast Arnhem Land by Yolngu and non-Indigenous musicians. They play rock grounded in Yolngu musical traditions, using didgeridoo and bilma alongside guitars, bass, drums and keyboards. Fronted for many years by Mandawuy Yunupingu, the group is best known for “Treaty,” “Djapana (Sunset Dreaming)” and the album Tribal Voice. In 1988, Yothu Yindi toured Australia and North America supporting Midnight Oil. They later performed at the closing ceremony of the 2000 Olympic Games at Stadium Australia, bringing “Treaty” to a stadium audience. In 2007, the band played the Sydney edition of Live Earth at Sydney Football Stadium.
