Daniela Mercury in Amsterdam

Daniela Mercury is a Brazilian singer born in Salvador in 1965. Her music draws on axé, samba-reggae, MPB and pop, and she became widely known through the song and album O Canto da Cidade. Feijão com Arroz, “Rapunzel” and “Nobre Vagabundo” are also central works in her catalogue. Before beginning her solo career, Daniela Mercury sang with Banda Eva during Salvador’s Carnival, working within the trio elétrico tradition. In 1992, she gave a free concert at MASP in São Paulo as O Canto da Cidade reached a broad audience. She later recorded the concert release MTV ao Vivo: Eletrodoméstico at the Concha Acústica do Teatro Castro Alves. Brazil is the center of her live work, particularly the carnival circuit in Bahia. Portugal is another established market for her concerts, including appearances in Lisbon.
