DJ Quik in San Diego

DJ Quik is an American rapper, producer and DJ born in Compton in 1970. His 1991 debut album, Quik Is the Name, introduced “Born and Raised in Compton” and “Tonite”; later albums include Safe + Sound and Rhythm-al-ism. His melodic, bass-heavy production is closely associated with West Coast rap and G-funk. In 2016, DJ Quik performed an NPR Tiny Desk Concert in Washington, D.C., fronting a live band. The set drew on his early catalogue through “Born and Raised in Compton,” “Jus Lyke Compton” and “Tonite.”
