Artist
El Khat is a band formed in Tel Aviv-Jaffa by Yemeni-Israeli musician Eyal el Wahab. The group plays percussion-driven music rooted in Yemeni folk songs, using homemade instruments built from discarded metal and wood. Its albums include Saadia Jefferson and Albat Alawi Op. 99. El Khat recorded a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR, where the ensemble demonstrated the handmade instruments central to its sound. The band has also taken that live setup to international events including Roskilde Festival and WOMAD.
