Elkie Brooks in Whitley Bay

Elkie Brooks is an English singer born in Salford in 1945, known for blues-rooted rock and pop. After singing with Dada and Vinegar Joe, she established a solo catalogue led by “Pearl’s a Singer,” “Lilac Wine,” “Sunshine After the Rain” and “No More the Fool,” while the album Pearls became a central release in her career. Vinegar Joe performed at Reading Festival in 1972, placing Brooks on a major rock stage before her solo success. The Pearls Concert at London’s Dominion Theatre later documented her solo stage work, and she appeared at the Silver Clef concert at Knebworth in 1990.
