Emperor X in Los Angeles

Emperor X is the recording and performance project of American songwriter Chad Matheny, active since 1998. His lo-fi indie rock uses acoustic guitar, electronics and field recordings, paired with densely detailed lyrics. His releases include Western Teleport, The Orlando Sentinel and Oversleepers International; “Erica Western Teleport” and “Allahu Akbar” are among his best-known songs. Emperor X has toured across North America and Europe, playing clubs, house shows and DIY venues. He usually performs solo, moving between acoustic guitar, keyboards and electronic accompaniment. After relocating to Berlin, he retained that format for European dates and return tours of the United States.
