Freshlyground in Worpswede

Freshlyground is a South African band formed in Cape Town in 2002, playing Afro-pop shaped by jazz, folk and soul. The group became known through the album Nomvula and songs including “Doo Be Doo” and “Pot Belly,” then reached a wider audience by recording “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)” with Shakira for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. Freshlyground performed at Johannesburg’s Live 8 concert in Mary Fitzgerald Square in 2005. In 2010, the band appeared at the FIFA World Cup Kick-Off Celebration Concert at Orlando Stadium in Soweto, then joined Shakira for “Waka Waka” during the closing ceremony at Soccer City.
