GNR in Póvoa de Varzim

GNR are a Portuguese rock band formed in Porto in 1981 under the name Grupo Novo Rock. Their music developed out of post-punk into pop rock, and their best-known songs include “Dunas,” “Efectivamente,” “Sangue Oculto” and “Pronúncia do Norte.” Albums such as Psicopátria and Rock in Rio Douro established the group’s catalogue, fronted by vocalist Rui Reininho. The 1990 live album In Vivo documented GNR as a concert band after their first decade of recording. Two years later, they performed a headline concert at Lisbon’s Estádio José Alvalade.
