Harlem Gospel Choir is an American gospel ensemble founded in New York in 1986 by Allen Bailey. Rooted in the music of Harlem’s Black churches, it performs spirituals and contemporary gospel as well as gospel arrangements of pop and soul songs; its themed programs have honored Aretha Franklin, Whitney Houston and Beyoncé. Harlem Gospel Choir has performed for Nelson Mandela and Pope John Paul II during a live history that has taken it well beyond its home city. In New York, its recurring Sunday Gospel Brunch has established a lasting stage home at the Blue Note Jazz Club.
