Heather Headley in Orem

Heather Headley is a Trinidadian-American singer and actress, born in Barataria, Trinidad and Tobago, in 1974. She is known for originating Nala in The Lion King, her Tony-winning title performance in Aida, and R&B songs including “He Is,” “I Wish I Wasn’t” and “In My Mind.” Her gospel album Audience of One won a Grammy. In 1997, Heather Headley originated Nala at Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre, then opened in the title role of Aida at the Palace Theatre in 2000. She took the role of Rachel Marron in the 2012 West End premiere of The Bodyguard at the Adelphi Theatre. Her 2016 return to Broadway as Shug Avery in The Color Purple brought her to the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.
