Artist
Hiroshima is an American jazz-fusion band formed in Los Angeles in 1974, known for using Japanese instruments such as koto and taiko in jazz-funk, R&B and pop arrangements. Its best-known recordings include “Roomful of Mirrors” and “One Wish,” while the albums Hiroshima and Odori established the group’s cross-cultural sound. In 1990, Hiroshima toured as the opening act for Miles Davis. The full-band concerts center on June Kuramoto’s koto and Dan Kuramoto’s saxophones and flutes, supported by taiko, keyboards, bass and drums. In later decades, Hiroshima has returned repeatedly to Yoshi’s in Oakland for jazz-club concerts.
