Ivan Lins in Porto Alegre

Ivan Lins is a Brazilian singer-songwriter, pianist and composer, born in Rio de Janeiro in 1945. His music sits within MPB, drawing on samba, bossa nova and jazz harmony. He became known through songs including “Madalena,” first recorded by Elis Regina, “Começar de Novo,” “Dinorah, Dinorah” and “Love Dance”; his compositions have also been recorded by George Benson and Sarah Vaughan. The concert album Ao Vivo documents his collaboration with Cuban pianist Chucho Valdés and the group Irakere. He later recorded the live album and video Cantando Histórias, revisiting his songbook in a voice, piano and band format. He has also performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
