Jai Uttal in Santa Cruz

Jai Uttal is an American singer and multi-instrumentalist, born in New York City in 1951, who performs devotional kirtan and world music rooted in Indian classical traditions. He studied sarod with Ali Akbar Khan and is known for albums including Footprints, Monkey and Mondo Rama, as well as his work with the Pagan Love Orchestra. Jai Uttal has performed at Bhakti Fest in California, leading the call-and-response chanting central to his concerts. He sings and plays harmonium, often accompanied by percussion and other musicians, and has also led kirtan workshops and concerts at the Omega Institute in New York.
