Jesse Royal in London

Jesse Royal is a Jamaican singer and songwriter from St James Parish who makes modern roots reggae shaped by dub and dancehall. He became known through songs including “Modern Day Judas” and the albums Lily of da Valley and Royal; “LionOrder,” recorded with Protoje, is another central track in his catalogue. Jesse Royal performed a Tiny Desk Concert for NPR Music in 2018, presenting his songs with a live band in the series’ close-quarters format. His festival appearances have also taken his music beyond Jamaica to Spain’s Rototom Sunsplash, while Reggae Sumfest has placed him on a major stage at home in Montego Bay.
