Artist
Canadian pianist and composer Kris Davis was born in Vancouver in 1980 and is based in New York. She plays avant-garde jazz and free improvisation, using both conventional and prepared piano. Her recordings include Save Your Breath, Duopoly and Diatom Ribbons, and she founded the Pyroclastic Records label. The 2023 album Diatom Ribbons Live at the Village Vanguard documents a 2022 engagement by her ensemble. The performances featured drummer Terri Lyne Carrington, turntablist Val Jeanty and bassist Trevor Dunn, plus guest appearances by guitarists Julian Lage and Nels Cline.
