L. Shankar in Kuala Lumpur

L. Shankar is an Indian violinist, singer and composer, born in Madras in 1950. He plays Carnatic music and jazz-rock, and was a founding member of Shakti with guitarist John McLaughlin. His solo records include Touch Me There, produced by Frank Zappa, and Who’s to Know. Shakti’s first album documents a 1975 concert on Long Island, where L. Shankar performed alongside John McLaughlin, Zakir Hussain and T. H. Vinayakram. The group subsequently toured the United States and Europe, including a 1976 performance at the Montreux Jazz Festival.
