Artists
The Vapors are an English new wave and power-pop band formed in Guildford in 1978. Led by singer and guitarist David Fenton, they are best known for “Turning Japanese,” released on their debut album, New Clear Days; their original studio run also produced Magnets. The Vapors supported The Jam on the 1979 Setting Sons tour, an early national platform for the band. After disbanding in 1981, they reunited in 2016 and resumed performing at British clubs and theatres, including Dingwalls in London.
China Crisis are an English new wave and synth-pop band formed in 1979 in Kirkby, Merseyside, by Gary Daly and Eddie Lundon. They are known for songs including “Wishful Thinking,” “Christian,” “Black Man Ray” and “King in a Catholic Style,” as well as the albums Working with Fire and Steel and Flaunt the Imperfection, the latter produced by Walter Becker. The band’s 40th Anniversary Tour reached UK theatres in 2022 and revisited material from across its catalogue. China Crisis later marked four decades of Working with Fire and Steel in concerts centred on the album, led by Daly and Lundon. China Crisis has appeared repeatedly at Rewind Festival and at events in the Let’s Rock series.
