About Man Or Astro-Man?
Man Or Astro-Man? is an American instrumental surf-rock band formed in Auburn, Alabama, in 1992. The group became known for rapid-fire guitar instrumentals, science-fiction dialogue samples and a retro space-program identity, documented on albums including Is It... Man or Astro-Man?, Experiment Zero and EEVIAC Operational Index and Reference Guide, Including Other Modern Computational Devices.
During the 1990s, Man Or Astro-Man? played repeated club tours across North America and Europe and recorded several sessions for John Peel at the BBC. After a hiatus, the band returned to concerts in 2010 and performed at All Tomorrow's Parties in Minehead; subsequent festival appearances included Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
The concert is presented as a science-fiction transmission built around an instrumental guitar-band set. The musicians perform in matching space-age uniforms, using spoken film samples and projected footage, and members are billed under aliases including Birdstuff, Coco and Star Crunch.
