Mark Hummel in Laguna Beach

Mark Hummel is an American blues singer, songwriter and harmonica player, born in New Haven in 1955 and long associated with the San Francisco Bay Area. He formed the Blues Survivors in 1980 and became known for his command of Chicago and West Coast blues harmonica. The collaborative tribute Remembering Little Walter received the Grammy Award for Best Blues Album. In 1991, Mark Hummel launched the Blues Harmonica Blowout, a touring showcase that has featured players including Charlie Musselwhite, James Cotton and Billy Boy Arnold. He later toured as the Golden State/Lone Star Blues Revue, whose central lineup paired him with guitarists Anson Funderburgh and Little Charlie Baty.
