Martinho Da Vila in Porto Alegre

Martinho da Vila is a Brazilian samba singer and songwriter, born in 1938 in Duas Barras, Rio de Janeiro state. Closely associated with the Unidos de Vila Isabel samba school, he built a repertoire that includes “Casa de Bamba,” “Canta, Canta, Minha Gente,” “Disritmia” and “Mulheres.” His self-titled debut album established the direct vocal style and carnival-rooted songwriting that run through his work. His concert at the Montreux Jazz Festival was documented in the release Live at Montreux, bringing his samba repertoire to an international festival stage. He later performed at Rock in Rio, where songs from across his recording career formed the core of his set.
