Melba Moore in Oakland

Melba Moore is an American singer and actress, born in New York City in 1945, whose work spans soul, disco and R&B. Her best-known recordings include “This Is It,” “You Stepped Into My Life,” “Love’s Comin’ at Ya” and the Freddie Jackson duet “A Little Bit More.” She also won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for her performance in Purlie. In 1968, Melba Moore joined Hair at the Biltmore Theatre and later took over the role of Sheila. Her stage career continued with Purlie in 1970, and she returned to Broadway in 1995 to play Fantine in Les Misérables at the Imperial Theatre.
