Artist
Meskerem Mees is a Belgian singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in Addis Ababa in 1999 and raised near Ghent. Her folk-rooted songs centre on voice, acoustic guitar and direct storytelling; “Joe” introduced her to a wider audience, followed by the debut album Julius. Her 2021 appearance at the Montreux Jazz Festival brought her the festival’s Grand Jury Prize. She performs with cellist Febe Lazou, whose cello and backing vocals accompany Mees’s voice and guitar.
