About Michael Franks

Michael Franks is an American singer-songwriter, born in La Jolla, California, in 1944, whose understated jazz-pop draws on bossa nova, soft rock and vocal jazz. He became known through albums including The Art of Tea and Sleeping Gypsy, and songs such as “Popsicle Toes,” “The Lady Wants to Know” and “Antonio’s Song (The Rainbow).”

The 1980 concert album Michael Franks with Crossfire Live documents an Australian tour on which the jazz-fusion group backed his vocals. The set included several of his established songs and was recorded at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.
