The Time in Detroit

The Time is an American funk and R&B band formed in Minneapolis in 1981 under Prince’s direction, fronted by singer Morris Day. The group became known through the film Purple Rain and songs including “Jungle Love,” “The Bird,” “Cool” and “The Walk,” as well as the albums What Time Is It? and Ice Cream Castle. The Time opened for Prince on the Controversy Tour and later appeared on the 1999 Tour before the original lineup separated. The musicians reunited for a performance at the 2008 Grammy Awards, playing “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” in a medley featuring Rihanna.
