Morris Day in Napa

Morris Day is an American funk singer, songwriter and actor best known as the frontman of The Time, the Minneapolis group closely associated with Prince. Born in Springfield, Illinois, in 1957, he became known for songs including “Jungle Love,” “The Bird” and “Cool,” as well as his role as bandleader Morris in the film Purple Rain. The Time opened for Prince on the Controversy Tour in 1981 and 1982, then toured with Prince and Vanity 6 on the 1999 Tour. Morris Day and The Time later performed at the 2008 Grammy Awards, bringing “Jungle Love” and “The Bird” into a televised medley. His concerts feature a full funk band, coordinated choreography and comic stage routines. The best-known recurring bit is the mirror routine between Morris Day and his longtime onstage partner Jerome Benton.
