Primus is an American rock band formed in El Sobrante, California, in 1984, built around Les Claypool’s bass playing and vocals. Their funk metal and alternative rock are heard on albums including Frizzle Fry, Sailing the Seas of Cheese and Pork Soda, and in songs such as “Jerry Was a Race Car Driver,” “My Name Is Mud” and “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver.” Primus headlined the 1993 Lollapalooza tour and performed at Woodstock ’94 the following year. In 2021 and 2022, the A Tribute to Kings tour paired the band’s own material with a complete performance of Rush’s album A Farewell to Kings. Primus also plays large outdoor amphitheatres. The 2024 Sessanta run brought the band to the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles and Red Rocks Amphitheatre near Denver.
