Pub Choir in Adelaide

Pub Choir is an Australian participatory singing project founded in Brisbane in 2017 by choir director Astrid Jorgensen. It is known for turning an audience of strangers into a temporary choir, teaching separate harmony parts for a familiar pop song and recording the combined performance. Its filmed singalongs and the remote Couch Choir series brought the format beyond the concert room. The first Pub Choir gathering was held at The Bearded Lady in 2017. The project subsequently moved into larger rooms and touring dates around Australia, then presented its participatory shows in the United States. When in-person events stopped in 2020, Couch Choir assembled remotely submitted voices into a single video performance. Each event teaches the audience one pop song in three-part harmony. Vocal sections rehearse separately before joining for the final performance under Astrid Jorgensen's direction.
