Shabba Ranks & Super Cat in New York

Shabba Ranks is a Jamaican dancehall deejay, born in St Ann Parish in 1966. His deep, rough-edged delivery became familiar through songs including “Mr. Loverman,” “Ting-A-Ling” and “Housecall.” The albums As Raw as Ever and X-tra Naked each won the Grammy Award for Best Reggae Album. At Sting in 1990, Shabba Ranks traded lyrics with Ninjaman in a dancehall clash. In 2012, he returned to a Jamaican stage at Catherine Hall in Montego Bay for Reggae Sumfest.

Super Cat is a Jamaican dancehall deejay and singer, born William Maragh in Kingston in 1963. A central voice in late-1980s and 1990s dancehall, he is known for the albums Don Dada and The Good, the Bad, the Ugly & the Crazy, as well as tracks including “Ghetto Red Hot,” “Dolly My Baby” and “Dem No Worry We.” In 2013, Super Cat returned to a New York stage at Hot 97’s On Da Reggae Tip concert at the Hammerstein Ballroom after a long absence from major US performances. He later appeared during the 2021 Verzuz event between KRS-One and Big Daddy Kane at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.
