Silvio Rodríguez in Zaragoza

Silvio Rodríguez is a Cuban singer-songwriter, born in 1946, who helped establish the nueva trova movement. His songs pair acoustic folk writing with social, political and personal themes; “Ojalá,” “Unicornio,” “La maza” and “Playa Girón” are among his best-known works, while Días y flores and Al final de este viaje are central albums in his catalogue. Concerts with Pablo Milanés in Buenos Aires in 1984 were documented on the album Silvio Rodríguez y Pablo Milanés en vivo. In 2010 he performed at Carnegie Hall in New York, then began Gira por los Barrios, a series of free concerts presented in Havana neighborhoods over many years.
