The Bats are a New Zealand indie-pop band formed in Christchurch in 1982 by Robert Scott, Kaye Woodward, Paul Kean and Malcolm Grant. Associated with Flying Nun Records and the Dunedin sound, they play guitar-led jangle pop and are known for songs including “North by North” and “Made Up in Blue,” as well as the albums Daddy’s Highway and The Law of Things. In 1985, The Bats toured Britain and Europe and recorded the Made Up in Blue EP during their time in London. Decades of further touring followed, and a European run behind The Deep Set in 2017 included a performance at Primavera Sound in Barcelona.
