Artist
The Hillbilly Thomists are an American bluegrass and folk band formed by Dominican friars studying at the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C. Their repertoire draws on gospel, blues and Appalachian music, and their recordings include the self-titled debut, Living for the Other Side, Holy Ghost Power and Marigold. The name comes from Flannery O’Connor’s description of herself as a “hillbilly Thomist.” The band undertook its first national concert tour in 2022, performing in churches and concert venues around the United States in connection with Holy Ghost Power. In 2024, the friars brought their acoustic lineup to the Grand Ole Opry for their debut at the Nashville institution.
