The James Hunter Six in Old Saybrook

The James Hunter Six is an English rhythm-and-blues and soul band led by singer and guitarist James Hunter. Its records draw on the compact arrangements and horn-led sound of 1950s and 1960s R&B; key releases include Minute by Minute, Hold On!, Whatever It Takes and Nick of Time. During the 1990s, Hunter toured as a guitarist and backing singer with Van Morrison. Years later, performing under the Six billing, he brought his own band to NPR’s Tiny Desk in 2016 for a set that included “Something’s Calling,” “Stranded” and “This Is Where We Came In.” The live lineup uses vocals and electric guitar, keyboards, bass, drums and a two-saxophone horn section. James Hunter fronts the group on vocals and guitar.
