Stray Cats in Colorado Springs

Stray Cats are an American rockabilly trio formed in Massapequa, New York, in 1979 by guitarist and singer Brian Setzer, double bassist Lee Rocker and drummer Slim Jim Phantom. They brought a lean 1950s-style rock-and-roll sound to 1980s pop through songs including “Rock This Town,” “Stray Cat Strut” and “(She’s) Sexy + 17,” while Built for Speed became their best-known album in the United States. The trio played the US Festival in California in 1983. They later returned for several reunions, including a European farewell tour in 2008 that put the original three-piece lineup back in theatres and arenas. Viva Las Vegas Rockabilly Weekend hosted their first North American performance in a decade in 2018. The following year, the 40th Anniversary Tour supported the album 40 and included an appearance at Spain’s Azkena Rock Festival.
