Artist
The Surfaris are an American surf-rock band formed in Glendora, California, in 1962. They are best known for “Wipe Out,” an instrumental built around Jim Fuller’s guitar riff and Ron Wilson’s drum solo, and for its original A-side, “Surfer Joe.” In 1962, the group began playing dances around Southern California, then toured behind “Wipe Out” after the record became a US hit the following year. Later reunions and successor lineups returned the material to oldies and surf-music concerts, and original guitarist Bob Berryhill went on to lead a touring version of The Surfaris. The show uses the electric-guitar, bass-and-drums format of the group’s early records. “Wipe Out” gives the drummer its central solo, the part first recorded by Ron Wilson.
