Artist
Avantasia is a German metal-opera project created in 1999 by Edguy singer and songwriter Tobias Sammet. It plays melodic power metal with symphonic arrangements and casts of guest vocalists. The albums The Metal Opera, The Scarecrow and Moonglow, as well as songs including “Lost in Space,” established its central fantasy-driven format. Avantasia first toured in 2008, and performances at Wacken Open Air and Masters of Rock were documented on the concert release The Flying Opera. The Mystery World Tour followed in 2013, then the Ghostlights World Tour in 2016 and the Moonglow World Tour in 2019, taking the production through theatres, arenas and major metal festivals. Tobias Sammet leads a full band while guest singers step into different songs and ensemble passages. Michael Kiske, Bob Catley and Jørn Lande have each filled those roles on Avantasia tours.
