Toquinho in Belo Horizonte

Toquinho is a Brazilian guitarist, singer and songwriter born in São Paulo in 1946. He plays bossa nova, samba and MPB, and is closely associated with his long partnership with poet and lyricist Vinicius de Moraes. His best-known songs include “Aquarela,” “Tarde em Itapoã” and “Samba de Orly.” In 1970, Toquinho began a decade-long concert and recording partnership with Vinicius de Moraes. That year the duo performed at La Fusa in Buenos Aires with Maria Creuza, and the engagement was documented on the album Vinicius de Moraes en La Fusa con Maria Creuza y Toquinho. He continued performing with the poet until 1980 and later sustained a solo concert career in Brazil and abroad. His concerts center on his singing and nylon-string guitar. The repertoire joins his solo work to the songbook he created with Vinicius de Moraes.
