Trampled by Turtles & Leftover Salmon in Dillon

Trampled by Turtles is an American progressive-bluegrass and folk-rock band formed in Duluth, Minnesota, in 2003. Built around guitar, banjo, fiddle, mandolin and upright bass, the group is known for songs including “Wait So Long,” “Alone” and “Codeine,” as well as the albums Palomino and Stars and Satellites. The 2014 concert album Live at First Avenue documented the band at the Minneapolis venue. Trampled by Turtles has taken the same string-band format to a headline show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and to performances at Newport Folk Festival and Telluride Bluegrass Festival.

Leftover Salmon is an American band formed in Boulder, Colorado, in 1989. The group plays improvisational bluegrass shaped by rock, country and Cajun music, a style it has called “polyethnic Cajun slamgrass.” Its best-known records include Euphoria, The Nashville Sessions and Bridges to Bert, while “River’s Rising” has remained a central song in its repertoire. In 2007, Leftover Salmon reunited at the Telluride Bluegrass Festival after a hiatus. The band then resumed sustained touring, including hometown concerts at the Fox Theatre and performances at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Its concerts feature a full band built around Vince Herman’s guitar and Drew Emmitt’s mandolin, supported by banjo, bass and drums. Songs are frequently extended through group improvisation, linking bluegrass picking to the open-ended structure of a jam-band set. Festival appearances have also included repeated performances at High Sierra Music Festival and Northwest String Summit.
