Windborne is an American vocal quartet from New England that performs folk music through close, unaccompanied harmony. The group is known for songs drawn from many languages and singing traditions, as well as labor and protest material collected on the albums Song on the Times and Of Hard Times & Harmony. In 2014, the U.S. Department of State selected Windborne for American Music Abroad, taking the quartet to Angola, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan for concerts and workshops. Its concerts center on four voices and carefully arranged polyphony, a format the group has also presented at the Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival and Old Songs Festival.
