About 38 Special
38 Special is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida, in 1974 by Donnie Van Zant and Don Barnes. Its Southern rock sound took on a polished, radio-ready edge on albums including Wild-Eyed Southern Boys, Special Forces and Tour de Force. The band is known for “Hold On Loosely,” “Caught Up in You,” “Rockin’ into the Night” and “If I’d Been the One.”
38 Special performed at the inaugural Rock in Rio in 1985. The band later recorded Live at Sturgis at the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, then compiled Live from Texas from 2009 performances in Texas.
