Ash are a Northern Irish rock band formed in Downpatrick in 1992 by singer and guitarist Tim Wheeler, bassist Mark Hamilton and drummer Rick McMurray. Their alternative rock and power pop became known through the albums 1977 and Free All Angels, and songs including “Girl from Mars,” “Goldfinger,” “Shining Light” and “Burn Baby Burn.” In 2016, Ash marked the twentieth anniversary of 1977 by playing the album in full on tour. Former guitarist Charlotte Hatherley rejoined the group for the Free All Angels anniversary shows in 2022, restoring the four-piece lineup associated with that record. The core trio returned to clubs and theatres for the Race the Night tour in 2023.
