About Brooklyn Funk Essentials
Brooklyn Funk Essentials is an American collective formed in Brooklyn in 1993 by producer Arthur Baker and bassist Lati Kronlund. The group plays funk and jazz-funk shaped by soul, hip-hop, reggae and spoken word. Its debut album, Cool and Steady and Easy, introduced songs including “Big Apple Boogaloo” and a version of Pharoah Sanders and Leon Thomas’s “The Creator Has a Master Plan.”
Brooklyn Funk Essentials played Glastonbury and Roskilde as a live ensemble built around multiple vocalists, horns and a funk rhythm section. The same vocal-and-horn format also appeared at North Sea Jazz.
