Caliban are a German metalcore band formed in Hattingen in 1997. Their music combines hardcore breakdowns, melodic metal guitar parts and contrasting screamed and clean vocals. They are known for albums including The Opposite from Within, The Awakening, I Am Nemesis and Ghost Empire, as well as songs such as “Memorial” and “Paralyzed.” Caliban performed at Wacken Open Air in 2008, then toured Europe in 2009 on Darkness Over Europe with Suicide Silence, Maroon and Emmure. Their other German festival appearances have included Summer Breeze Open Air. The group performs as a five-piece band, led by Andreas Dörner’s screamed vocals. The clean-vocal counterpoint is supplied by guitarist Denis Schmidt.
